Another Bike Race and Days After Surgery!

Last Friday my parents and I met in Birmingham to go to Newnan, GA for one of Preston's Bike Races. We had a bit of delay because of my tired. My tired had split on the way to Birmingham that night and some of the metal had popped out and there was a huge hump in my tire. Praise God I made it to Birmingham and didn't have a huge blowout. So after we ate at Tazekis (my second time for the week, I met some of my best friends Wednesday night for dinner), my mom insisted that my dad go to Wal Mart and see if the tire center was still open, it had closed, but the man was willing to stay until he got it fixed so we could get to Newnan. My dad drove his car too, but he was having to leave earlier than we did so he could get back to preach. Thank goodness for nice people still in this world. He stayed over for two hours to get it done, what a nice man! So we didn't end up getting to Newnan until 1:30 their time. Atleast Preston's race wasn't until 1:00 Saturday afternoon. Of course all over the south, well in Bama and Georgia it was cold and rainy all weekend, it sucked that the weather was so bad, but we still had a good time. Newnan is where Georgia Tech is at. It was about the size of Tuscaloosa. Here are some pictures we took.

This is Mom, Dad and me before we left for the race!

This is Preston getting ready in the warm and out of the rain, except he kept forgetting stuff and kept making me get out in the rain and go get it. What we will do for little brothers!

This is actually the 2nd Day, but its the best of him about to start a race!

This is during a race, he is right there in the middle with the bright blue jacket on.

He did very good! The first day there was a bunch of wrecks, but the second day when it was raining worse, there was no wrecks but a lot of people quitting. We had a good time and of course when we get to the interstate from Newnan, the sun starts coming out and we are searching for sunglasses to drive in. Haha, oh well.

Yesterday, Tuesday, I finally got my huge tonsils and adnoids taken out. Monday when I went to the ENT up here, it took him 2 seconds to see that they needed to come out. They rate them on a scale of 1 to 4 and mine were a 4. So needless to say yesterday I got them out and even though my throat hurts extremely bad, I can already swallow better. And no more STREP! Yea! I'm doing extremely well though, I actually don't feel bad, its just that my throat hurts extremely bad. I'm trying not to take the pain medicine for as long as I can and then I have to break down and take it. My parents have been wonderful, asking if I need anything, fixed me homeade mashed potatoes last night. Yummy! Preston is even fixing us lunch, well mostly for his food, so he can go ride. Haha. Anyways....I hope my throat quits hurting soon. I would love to lay out, but I forgot my bathing suit. I'm losing my tan, so I need to do something. Maybe I will go to the tanning bed! Ha! Well love till next time!

Sad weekend at DCH!

Many of you are probably wondering what my facebook status is about, well now that its on the news, I can tell. Saturday night I was working of course because I feel like that is all I do. We got a patient up to the floor that was a 60 year old man, with a neck brace on. We all thought, hmmm he must of been in a car wreck. And were we ever right. One of our friends is a resp. therapist and was in the Emerency Room when all of this was going on. A 22 year old and his uncle (which is the 60 yr old man we got to the floor) and the 22 year olds son was in a truck. The dad and uncle were drunk and the car wrecked into the Sipsey River. The two men got out and left the baby in the carseat on the trunk. When the police and the ambulance arrived they saw something floating upside down and it was the baby in the carseat floating in the river, not breathing. When the 3 year old arrived to the hospital they had to fully "code" him. (In simple terms, do everything they can to keep that baby breathing and alive.) They then lifted him to Children's hospital in Birmingham. The baby is still there and still in critical condition. Please pray for this little boy as he fights for his life in Birmingham. Again, we got the uncle to the floor and he just passed out asleep, because they were both were completly drunk when they arrived to the hospital. The people that were working Saturday night were just in awe of how you could do this to an innocent little child. On our side, how do you show sympathy to a patient that has done this, which is what one of our job descriptions is, to have sympathy towards your patients. Thank goodness he got discharged before I came back to work yesterday. Everyone is forgiven, but I think the 22 year old and the uncle the last thing on their mind is being forgiven, just how not to get in trouble. Pray for this whole family, especially the little boy. It is very sad to me and I have thought about him all weekend long and still today. Let this be a life lesson to all of us and think about what you do before you get in a car and drive!

On a good note....... My family and I are going to Newnan, GA to watch another race of Preston's. This is the first collegiate race my parents will have seen, so I'm very excited to go and hopefully the UA team does really well. They work really hard and I think they deserve to do good. Then I will be off to Russellville to have my tonsils and adnoids taken out. Yea, hopefully no more strep 4 times in a month and a half. It's going to be rough because I'm older having this done, but I will make it with a lot of jello and popsicles. No icecream, I won't explain what it does because its gross. Until next time! Love you all!

Its been a while!!

I have been such a bad blogger lately! But it's hard to this when you work 48 hours in one week and the rest to make up 80 in the next week. Then all I want to do when I'm off is sleep. So anyways, I haven't had much time to do anything. So here's a little catch up on me.

Wow, I just looked at my blog and its been 2 months since I have posted. Obviously I can't remember everything, but here is some of it.

My little brother Preston races his bicycle for the UA Cycling team. Well this past weekend, they hosted a race. The UA team is very new and last year was their first year, so they don't have a coach or anything. So Preston, Sam, and Tyler did all the work and they did a very good job. All the guys from the different schools said they had a great time and Preston, Sam and Tyler were very good hosts, some of the best. Anyways....these races consist of 2 different types of races. There is a road race usually on Saturday and a crit on Sunday. The road race consist of a course made from the roads that is usually about a 10-12 mile radius and then you do it for 30-50 or more miles or sometimes more. The crit on Sunday is a course set up in a parking lot around 1k and all they do the whole time is sprint around the course for 30 minutes plus 3 laps. I went to all the races and it was so neat to watch them race. It might sound boring, but to me it is just as interesting if not more than watching football or something. So the road race on Saturday Preston finished 4th and we were oh so proud!! Here is a picture.

This was after he finished 4th on Saturday!

This is him before he started!

This is the team: Preston, Tyler, Sam and Andy

I've also been to one of my good friends wedding which was in January. It's crazy how almost all of my friends from highschool are either married or married and have kids. We are growing up! Sad!

So I've been thinking long and hard about something. Give me your advice. I have been having the itch about moving home where my parents live or actually in Florence and not Russellville. I have always lived far from my whole family and I would like to live closer to them. Getting to see my parents and family on a regular basis would be wonderful. Also, I have some friends up there too. I do want to go back to nursing school and planning on it, but I could go up there with no problem. So, I think I might do it. It would also save me a lot of money living up there because it is so much cheaper to live up there. The only problem would be, finding a job. Boo! Especially with the economy the way it is. So pray hard for me as I decide what to really do. I think I have made up my mind, but be thinking about me anyways....

Lent is a big part of my family and I'm giving up soft drinks for lent!!!

Till next time......

I'm awake at 4:00 am!

So as I'm sitting here awake at 6:00 am now, what better to do than blog. My lovely neighbor below me has gone in and out her door a million times since 4 and woke me and Bailey up. Although I am used to not going to bed till 7, I was sleeping oh so good, oh well! I now see why all my friends love this. Its a stress reliever, time filler and its so fun to read everybody's blog and what they are doing on a daily basis. I wish more people would do one. Yesterday was Veteran's Day, which is special to almost everyone. My grandfather was in the military when he was a younger man, although he is no longer with us, he was an amazing man and I will always take time to think about him especially on this day. My family has had a rough few years, but we have seemed to make it through everything. The most recent was that my Uncle Kenny suddenly passed away. He was fighting cancer for a year and had a clear bone scan at the end of the summer, so everything was going just as we had prayed for a good solid year. Then all the sudden I get a phone call from my little brother, when I had just talked to my mom 20 minutes before that, saying Kenny was being rushed to the hospital and he had died on the way there. Very sudden, tragic and heartbreaking! Yes, every family has their issues, but when my grandmother died of breast cancer when I was 7 it seems we let all our issues out the door and just focused on what was important to us which was being a loving family. Our family was very close. My dad is a minister and it was so awesome when we got to move to Russellville, which was just 2o minutes away from the fam. Anyways, last Thursday was his funeral and it was sad and we all did our fair share of crying. But the reason I'm telling this is because my dad did one of the coolest things ever after the funeral and it gives me chills whenever I think about it and I just decided I needed to share it with you. My uncle was an artist and you can see his work everywhere around Colbert and Franklin County. But one of his prize art works is on one of the firetrucks in Tuscumbia, which goes to fires and does special events. Their school mascot is a tiger, so it has the Deshler Tiger and Tuscumbia and some other stuff on it. Its beautiful! So my dad arranged, secretly, for that particular firetruck to process us to the grave site where he was being burried on that day. What more can you say, but WOW! My aunt and two cousins and the rest of us absolutely loved it. It all brought smiles to our faces in the midst of grief, which is what we needed that day. This is my aunt, uncle and their grandbabies!!

Anyways.....on a happier note! Alabama has a home game this weekend. ROLL TIDE!! Its against Mississippi State, the only thing that stinks is I have to work all weekend. Boo. One stinky part of working at a hospital, it operates 24/7. Last night, my good friend Sarah and I went to Chuck's down here and had some sushi and got to catch up. Every Tuesday, we make time out of our busy schedules to get together and just talk and just have girl time. I'm already ready for next Wednesday so I can have 5 days in a row off, which it is Sarah's bday weekend adn can't wait to celebrate it with her.

I'm going to attempt to go back to sleep, because I have to work 12 hours tonight starting at 7pm. It won't be to bad, I work with some good, fun, entertaining people. We have to keep each other awake by laughing!!!

Bay Bay

My dog Bailey is a mess! He is absolutely spoiled to his bones. He gets everything he wants and sleeps under the covers with me. My little brother gave him to me almost 2 years ago for Christmas. One of the best presents I have ever gotten. Bailey is my roommate and keeps me company. This weekend we babysat Burly, which is my neighbors dog. Bailey and Burly love to play together, so last night while I was trying to sleep before going into work, they constantly ran around the apartment playing with each other and kept me from sleeping. Dogs are just like little kids. If you go somewhere, they either have to go or you have to find a babysitter. Anways...Bailey is my child! In return for babysitting Burly, I got an Alabama ornament from Amy and I can't wait to put in on my tree for Christmas. This is where I found him the other day, laying in my jacket!

Football!

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!! I can't believe we won that game. That was a very nerve racking game. My dog Bailey kept looking at me like I was crazy because I was cheering so loud!! Well I've had to work this weekend because they made me go home last weekend because I had strep for the 2nd time in a month. I've got to go take a nap before working 11-7, so I will post some more later!
